CLD 262: Special Project

What I Implemented:

I chose to pick a recipe book as my special project as I observed that families were very interested in what ingredients go into the foods that they are eating. One family mentioned that if you cannot pronounce what is in your food then you should not be eating it. This is where my special project stemmed from. By involving these families in this project, they had the opportunity to feel accepted within this program and that they have a say as to what is going on. This project also reflected the mandate of the centre that I was at by having nutritious foods available for the children, as well as parents can feel that they have done what is needed to best support their children's health during the most critical years.

What was Included in the Recipe Book:
Hand Outs:

A hand out Based on fun and creative ways to get your children to eat healthy. This was part of the interactive portion of the project

A hand out based on the cultural aspect of the centre which was used as a resource for parents. This hand out included a recipe for a traditional dish called Succotash

Interactive Portion of the Project:
Interactive Portion of the Project:

Each family member had the opportunity to create one of the items on the handout created. This was seen as the interactive portion. The outcome of this was very positive as the families felt they were included in the project

The Outcome:

I believe that the recipe book did achieve the intended outcome as the families were all very excited when they were able to take home their own books with all of the meals that they made throughout the program. The feed back that I received was very positive from the families and the staff as it was seen as a keep sake from the program that the families can physically take away
